Craft a cute apple shopper

Craft a cute apple shopper

Posted 3rd Aug 2017

This month we're celebrating the humble apple harvest with a host of eye-catching crafts inspired by the season's bounty

1. Begin by downloading and printing the apple shopper template here.

2. Trim the paper along the dotted lines to make it smaller and easier to work with. Use a soft, dark pencil (a ‘B’ pencil is ideal) to draw over the top of the printed apple outline. Place a small piece of lino face up on your work surface and place the apple template face down, centrally on top. Take the soft pencil and rub it all over the paper, this will transfer the apple design down on to the front side of the lino.

3. Discard the paper pattern. Draw over the apple shape with a permanent marker. Next, use a lino-cutting tool to cut round the apple and leaf shapes, following the marker pen outline. Cut away and remove the lino around the outside of the shapes. Carefully cut away some apple and leaf detail on top of the shapes.

4. Pour some red lino ink into a tray or shallow plate. Dip the roller in the ink and then roll it onto the lino apple. Press the lino face down onto the plain shopper; repeat until you have covered one side of the shopper. Leave to dry and then repeat on the other side.

Lino printing block, £4 per 2 pack, lino cutter and 10 blades set, £8, lino roller, £8, plain natural cotton shopping bag, £1, all Hobbycraft. Red Lino or block printing ink, £6.95, Cowling & Wilcox.
