Create the beautiful lanterns found in the latest issue of LandLove (July/August 2016, p.49) using the free downloadable template below
1-2 Print out the lantern templates and carefully cut them out. Cut slits into the lanterns using a Stanley knife, following the dotted lines. Fold in half lengthways (along the fold line), making sure the pattern is on the outside.
3 Apply all-purpose glue to one of the two blank spaces at the edges. Bend the paper to bring the two ends together. Place the unglued end on top of the glued end and press down. The lantern should bulge out a little, with the folded edge sticking out nicely in the centre. Place your finished lantern over a candle holder. Or, if you’d prefer to hang your lantern, punch a hole on either side of the lantern to attach a florists wire handle. Print off the template for the base online and fold the glue flaps upwards. Paint with glue and attach the base to the lantern, ensuring the glue flaps are on the inside of the lantern.
Tip: Why not print our blank template and create your own unique design, or make a lantern from patterned paper?
Caution: You should make sure your paper lantern does not come into direct contact with sources of heat, such as candles or tea lights. LED tea lights are a good choice. Only ever place such objects inside the lantern in glass holders of sufficient height. Failure to do so may result in fire. Keep lanterns out of the reach of children.
