Would you call your dog Obi Wan Kenobi?

Let’s face it, if you own a Labrador you have thought about calling it Marley. Perhaps it was too common and you wanted a more unconventional name, like Obi Wan Kenobi. When it comes to naming your pet, you want to make sure it’s unique and special. Some may get inspiration from their favourite celebrity or food / drink, or even better, their favourite Sci-Fi character.

Co-op Pet Insurance have sifted through their database of 50,000 policy pets and have collected their favourite Sci-Fi dog names. From Harry Potter to Marvel, here are the top 10 sci-fi character names given:

Dumbledore

Chewbacca

Voldemort

Bilbo Baggins

Obi Wan Kenobi

Zoidberg

Thor

Ewok

Han Solo

Megatron

Are you guilty of naming your dog after a sci-fi character or any other unusual name? Well don’t worry you’re not alone. There are nearly 100 other dogs that drew this particularly short straw according to Co-Op Pet Insurance. This isn’t even taking into account some of the dogs that had the unfortunate fate of being named after a piece of food or an alcoholic beverage, so I believe your dog can class itself as one of the lucky ones.

There’s no doubt that it is a sign of love to have named your dog after a Sci-Fi character, it shows a level of compassion and effort to make your own dog special and personal to you as an owner. Not to mention the pure humour that other people will get out of meeting a dog named ‘Voldemort’ or ‘Han Solo’. The question is why we do we as owners not give our dogs normal names like ‘Bob’ or ‘Alfie’? Is it the inner child in us that refuses to grow up? Probably.
