Pea mug cosy and pea pod charm

Keep your mug of soup warmer for longer with a pea pod cosy and charm. Begin by downloading our ‘Pea Mug Cosy’ template by clicking here. Our template should fit an average-sized mug. You can increase or decrease the size of the template on a photocopier if you wish.

Cut round the pod and pea shapes on the paper template. Pin the paper pod pattern onto a mid-green felt and the four paper pea templates onto a slightly lighter coloured green felt. Cut round the shapes and unpin. Pin the peas onto the pod and machine or hand stitch in place centrally down the middle of the pod. Next, hand stitch a few small green seed beads onto the top of each pea for decoration. Stitch a Velcro sew on spot at each end of the pod to keep the wrap in place, hold the pod round your mug to check the positioning so you get a fairly snug fit.

To make the pea pod charm, roll out a piece of lime green Fimo to about 3mm thick. Use a small sharp knife and trim it to a 10cm tall by 5cm wide leaf shape, as shown. Roll several peas from the lighter tropical green colour Fimo clay. Place the peas inside the pod and bring the sides of the pod up to nearly close it, squeeze the pod lightly with your fingertips round the peas to secure. Pinch each end of the pod at. Make a hanging hole with a needle. Bake in the oven to harden following the manufacturer’s guidelines. Hang the charm on the handle with a little twine, ribbon or wire.

Green felt, £1.70 per 20cm x 30cm sheet, Blooming Felt. Green rainbow 2mm seed beads, £1.20 per 15g pack; Velcro sew on spots, £4; Fimo soft modelling clay in Lime Green and Tropical Green £2.50 per block, all Hobbycraft.
