Five tips for decorating your Christmas tree

When do you put your Christmas tree up?

Whether you like to have it up for a few weeks in the lead up to Christmas, or prefer to put it up once we're firmly into December, decorating the tree is always a fun experience. However, there are a few tips you can try to make your tree look extra special this year...

1 First and foremost, don't start decorating your tree until it's secure in its base. If you do, you'll soon end up fighting with branches and crawling beneath the foliage.

2 Once the tree has been positioned and you're happy it will not be in the way of any pets or little ones, you should leave it to stand for up to 24 hours. This will allow the branches to settle down.

3 Think about what you want your tree to say about you before choosing the decorations and then decide what will complement your home. Dobbies has a wide array of ideas, style and colours, which will make your tree sparkle and look especially spectacular.

4 Making a few of your homemade decorations is a lovely way to get children involved in decorating the tree, and creates treasured keepsakes to keep for years to come.

5 When you're dressing the tree, start by selecting the biggest items from your assortment and display them on larger branches, then repeat this technique by matching smaller decorations to more petite branches.
