In the latest of our Humans of the Waterway features, courtesy of the Canal and River Trust, we meet Gary, Jessica, Yousaf, Emmeline, Martha & Fred on the Kennet & Avon Canal
"Fred, or Jeff as he calls himself, is having a great day. The name Jeff started one day when he called himself that, and we all laughed so much that I think he liked it - and so it's stuck! Anyway Fred, or Jeff, has been having great fun jumping in the puddles getting his wellies very mucky - he had to lose those before he went onto Daddy's back!
Fred hasn't even had a sleep yet today because there's so much to see! As well as all the boats, we've seen a moorhen, some ducks and we thought we saw a heron, but then we realised it might just be a seagull.
Yousaf and Emmeline live in Trowbridge and the rest of us live in Bruton. We met up on the train and went for a swim first and now we're just going for a walk along the canal back to Trowbridge. We're seasoned walkers so it's not too much for any of us. When we get there, the girls are looking forward to a sleep-over tonight, and I think Fred should sleep well after the excitement of the day.
Fred's picking up new words so fast at the moment, and the latest one today is 'boat!' He's been desperately waving at people on the boats passing by and no-one has waved back yet. Don't worry there are more boats coming! Wave harder!"
