With just some scraps of wood and paint, you and your children can create a garden signpost leading to magical worlds and sparking imaginative play
You will need
A fence post, large wooden pole or length of timber
Scraps of wood for signs such old pallets, old fence pales etc.
Saw (if you are shaping the wood into ‘arrows’)
Wood preservative and/or varnish
Hammer and nails or screw driver and screws
1 Make a list of some of your favourite magical places. Here are some suggestions:
- Middle Earth
- Camp Half-blood
- Emerald City
- Gotham City
2 Gather your scraps of wood. These can be large pieces of bark, broken pieces of pallets, old fence pales, etc.
3 Remove any jagged pieces, old nails and dirt
4 Sand the front of each piece to make painting easier.
5 Paint on the locations. You may wish to trace in pencil first.
6 Add a clear layer of outdoor wood preservative or varnish to protect the painted location name.
7 Secure the post in the ground – if you want it as a permanent feature use concrete as per bag’s instructions
8 Secure the signs to the post using nails or screws
If you prefer, you can attach the signs to a length of 2 x 4 or similar and attach this to a fence or tree.
Now, where will your imagination take you today?
