Nine ways to use lavender around the home

There's no two ways about it - lavender creates a truly wonderful scent

Why not bring the lovely smell into your home? The aromatic herb provides any interior with a dash of colour, with its long-lasting bloom offering a delicate fragrance for the warm months ahead.

To help you incorporate lavender into your home, Victoria Weir, Flower Buyer at Lidl, shares her tips...

1 Dry the lavender and then fill fabric pouches. These will go in your drawers and wardrobes, making your clothes smell good and acting as a natural moth repellent.

2 Make your shower a more spa-like experience by attaching a bunch of lavender to the top of your shower attachment. As steam is created, the aromas are released.

3 Create a lavender vinegar mixture to make a natural glass and surface cleaner. All you will need is home-grown lavender, vinegar and an air-tight bottle or jar. Then, leave it in a dark place for a few weeks. After that, pour it into a spray bottle and you're good to go.

4 Infuse your lavender with honey to make a gently floral taste. Use this to make a delicious lavender lemonade to refresh you on a hot day.

5 Tie dried lavender into a muslin bag and let it infuse in a hot bath to give you a relaxing, aromatic soak. Lavender helps you to sleep soundly too, so tuck a pouch of lavender under your pillow for added relaxation.

6 Steep a pinch of lavender in hot water to make a home brew which has a delicate floral taste, helping to calm any nerves.

7 Dry out your lavender flowers and add them to your favourite recipes. They make a great addition in cookies and cakes, and bring out a unique flavour in breads, jam and salads.

8 Why not create your own room scent with dried lavender pot pourri? You can then add other dried flowers to give you extra colour and scent.

9 Combining lavender heads with wheat grains in a pouch can make a wrap to be heated and applied to muscles to ease tension. The wheat keeps you warm, while the lavender's unique aroma soothes your body and mind.

You can buy lavender plants at Lidl from £1.89.
