With temperatures soaring, it's never been more important to make sure our pets stay cool
So how do you go about ensuring they stay refreshed during the heatwave?
These tips will help:
Host a pool party for pets
Why not purchase a paddling pool? They're available for next to nothing and provide your pet with a refuge from the heat where you can have fun. To ensure it is even more enjoyable, consider inviting your friends. Just ensure everyone gets along.
Make your own ice treats
Why not try to make your own dog-friendly treats to keep your pet cool? Frozen meat, bones or just ice cubes can go a long way to cooling your pet down.
Hydration is key
It’s an obvious point, but hydration is as important for us as it is for our pets. When you drink, think about whether your pet needs a top-up or not. It's better being safe than sorry.
Keep a cool house
Apart from closing the curtains, opening windows and keeping your pets away from sun-facing rooms, there seems to be a little-known method that is also extremely effective - insulation. It's effective at keeping heat in during the winter and out during the summer.
Common heatstroke symptoms to look out for include:
- Faster, heavier panting
- Extreme thirst
- Frequent vomiting
- Reddening of tongue and gums
- The skin around the muzzle and neck doesn't snap back when pinched
