Askham Hall Gardens is set to become ablaze with colour, music and a little bit of joie di vivre this June, as it welcomes two new summer events which mark British Flowers Week and the Year of the English Garden
Previously the family seat of the Earls of Lonsdale, the Gardens are situated on the edge of the Lake District national park. The 13th century hall overlooks 12 acres and the grade II listed gardens have uninterrupted views of the River Lowther and the surrounding countryside. With formal lawns, woodlands and meadows interweaving with the colourful terraces, an animal trail and even a 230 foot long double herbaceous border.
To celebrate the arrival of summer, visitors will be able to experience the gardens at their colourful best with Askham participating in the two national celebrations with two special events:
1 Summer Fété
Come along on Sunday 12th June, between 11am and 4pm, to participate in a hose of family activities such as a treasure hunt around animal trails, along with garden tours, workshops and flower arranging demonstrations. With local produce on sale, including seasonal gifts. There will be free parking and entry to the barn, with entry to teh garden costing £4 for adults and free for children. Entry and stallholder fees will go to the National Gardens Scheme for the charity.
2 Cocktail Garden Party
Come along on Sunday 12th June, from 4pm until 9pm. Over 18s will be able to enjoy an evening of cocktails, canapes and live jazz, with games such as croquet taking place on the front lawn. Prepare to soak up some of the garden's stunning atmosphere, as the sun goes down and you find yourself emersed in the 700 year history of the garden.
