Daffodil & Early Magnolia Month

St David’s Day Parade

The annual St David’s Day parade will take place on the streets of Cardiff City centre, starting outside City Hall at 12.30pm and finishing outside St David's Hall where everyone will raise their voice to the Welsh national anthem. Thousands of people are expected to attend the parade, which will be followed by Welsh performers and traditional music sessions in pubs across the city centre.

The Annual Pilgrims’ Walk

If you fancy something a little more outdoorsy, head to the city of St Davids in Pembrokeshire to take part in The Annual Pilgrims’ Walk. Led by clergy, the Pilgrims’ Walk leads to the illumination of the St David’s Day Stone, ending at the spectacularly beautiful Oriel y Parc. Top tip: You might want to return to St Davids Cathedral at some point, because it is said that two trips to it are the ecclesiastical equivalent of a pilgrimage to Rome.

BBC National Orchestra of Wales

The BBC National Orchestra of Wales makes a return to celebrate the patron Saint. The concert will be held at St David’s Hall in Cardiff and will be hosting conductor Grant Llewellyn, harpist Catrin Finch and tenor Gwyn Hughes Jones. Enjoy traditional songs, choral works and the chance to sing-along with Wales’ finest. Tickets from £15.00.

Free entry at various cultural hotspots

Immerse yourself in Welsh history and culture with free entry to various attractions in honour of the patron saint. Discover Welsh art and take a walk through the ‘Evolution of Wales’ gallery at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff, where there will also be a special recital from students of the Welsh College of Music and Drama. Alternatively, explore some of Wales’ most beautiful castles, abbeys, churches and chapels with free entry to Cadw sites. The National Botanical Gardens of Wales is also offering free entry to its Welsh food, drink and craft fair, featuring live music from choirs and harps.

St David’s Night with Carnguwch Male Voice Choir

Market Foodie Event

Sample a host of Welsh produce including cakes, sweet treats, jams, chutneys and speciality sausages at the Market Foodie event in Pontypool, in addition to the market’s regular offer of home cooked meals, fresh fruit, veg, meats and fish. Set to a backdrop of music from a Welsh language choir, Blaenavon Master Chef contestant Sinead Jackson will be running Love Food Hate Waste cookery demonstrations to show how left overs can be transformed into a range of delicious dishes, and will be cooking up a St David’s Day inspired menu.

How are West Dorset butterflies doing?

St David’s Day Run

The ever-growing family based run is back and celebrates St David’s Day as well as raising vital funds for Cancer Research Wales. This year there is the option to take part in either a 1km, 5km or 10km race, though either option provides you with the opportunity to take in spectacular views of Wales’ iconic capital. Organised by The Motivation and Learning Trust, the run takes place on the weekend closest to St David’s Day, and fancy dress costumes are encouraged.

Winter Birding Cruise

Seashore Walk and Draw

Dusty’s GIANT Duck Hunting

Intrepid explorers will have plenty to keep them entertained at WWT Llanelli this Easter, where a giant duck hunt and plenty of other wildlife-themed activities will take place throughout the school holidays. Little ones can channel their inner Sherlock Holmes and hunt the beautiful wetland for a flock of elusive giant (rubber) ducks and enjoy a tasty reward afterwards for good sleuthing. Other activities over the Easter school holidays include minibeast hunting, den building and a host of arts and craft workshops.
